Hi everyone,
Welcome to The Pushbike Surfer. If you are new, welcome to my blog. I write about my thoughts and experiences on bicycles, surfboards, and traveling around the world.
I am currently living in Okinawa, Japan and I recently took a trip to an even smaller island 10 Kilometers off the Southeast Coast of Okinawa.
Today I am going to share my travel experience to Kudaka Island.
We arrived to the port where the ferry leaves around 10:40am as it was scheduled to leave at 11:00am. There is a small office located in the parking lot where you can buy tickets one way or return as well as purchasing a spot for your car, motorcycle or bicycle.

It was only a 25 minuet boat ride to Kudaka Island.
Arrival
Once We arrived to the Island you walk 500 meters from the port to the main part of town. There isn’t much but it consists of a few restaurants, places to rent bicycles, another ticketing office for the ferry, and locals houses.

I brought my bicycle and Ayane rented a bicycle at one the shops. It cost us 1,000 yen to rent a bicycle for the whole day.
You can see what her bike looked like in this Reel I posted on Instagram.
Biking Around Kudaka Island
Being on Kudaka island gave me the instant sensation of being in a well preserved tropical landscape, while feeling the rich history tied to the Ryukyu Kingdom.
There were old Okinawan styled houses with very traditional fencing made of natural resources that were relied on for hundreds of years when typhoons would come through the island.
When cycling, one of the best parts was the number of paths that would turn off into a view of the beach.

This made cycling around an island that was only 7km in circumference feel very full of things to do!
I guess Ayane and I enjoy the beach a lot so it made it very enjoyable to cycle around the island for these different views!

After cycling around the Island we found a beach to rest on that forbids people from swimming because it is respected as a beach for the gods.
In fact, this island is considered sacred because of the gods who long lasting presence reside there.
Kudaka Island, as you may notice from my writing, doesn’t have a lot to keep you busy aside from the many beaches and coves that will keep you in awe.
You may only need a day or even a half day depending non how you spend your time on Kudaka Island.
Conclusion
My experience on Kudaka Island was amazing, from enjoying the views of the ocean to the small tropical island feeling. Riding bikes around Kudaka island is something I would recommend to anyone who has a day to explore the surroundings of Okinawa’s mainland.
I hope this article gave you some insight as to what Okinawa and Kudaka Island has to offer.
